Metal manufacturer announces world’s most solid gold
The manufacturer of an 18-karat gold alloy believes what it crafted in its metallurgy department in Switzerland is the globe's most solid metal, according to a published report.
Hublot announced the precious metal during the middle of last month with the assistance of a professor from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, according to National Jeweler. Patents are pending for the metal that has been graded 18 karat by the Central Office for Precious Metals Control.
The new alloy is scratch resistant and the Vickers hardness scale rates it nearly 1,000. The typical rating for 18-karat gold is 400.
The material will be used for watches that will make their premier at BaselWorld. The metal is known as "Magic Gold," and it fuses with materials including ceramic to make a new type of gold.
Bloomberg reports gold prices were poised to drop in value on Wednesday after having achieved three consecutive days of gains. The precious metal last week achieved its 11th consecutive year of annual gains and holds a record high price of $1,923.70 per troy ounce.
